Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The paper or poster template has been used and subsequent formatting followed (available in the author guidelines section).
  • The author declaration form has been completed (available in the author guidelines section).
  • The word count is between 5,000 - 10,000 words for a research article; 1,000 - 2,500 words for an account of practice / reflection or hackathon / special issue article; or 10 minutes duration for mp3 poster presentation.
  • Bibliographic requirements have been followed, e.g., all sources acknowledged and referenced in Harvard format.

The author declaration form must be completed and submitted alongside your paper / poster.

Please use the paper template or poster template.

Word count

For research articles, word count range is 5,000 - 10,000 words. For account of practice / reflections and hackathon / special issue articles, the word count range is 1,000 - 2,500 words. This excludes abstract, tables, figures, references, and appendices. An abstract of max. 150 words must be provided in all cases.

Title and keywords

A concisely worded title must be provided, accompanied by five keywords which are search engine friendly. Please name all contributing authors.

Referencing

Referencing must be aligned to Harvard style. For in-text referencing, a single author will be Smith (2025) or (Smith, 2025). For two authors, this will be Smith and Jones (2025) or (Smith and Jones, 2025). For three or more authors, this will be Smith et al. (2025) or (Smith et al., 2025). For the full reference list, examples are provided below.

  • Book: Smith, J. (2020) Introduction to Psychology. 2nd edn. London: Pearson.
  • Book chapter: Brown, A. (2019) 'The role of memory in learning', in Green, T. and White, R. (eds.) Cognitive Science: Key Theories and Applications. 3rd edn. New York: Wiley, pp. 45–67.
  • Journal article: Taylor, L. and Johnson, R. (2021) 'The impact of mindfulness on academic performance', Journal of Educational Research, 68(3), pp. 200–215.

Research articles

Research article (5,000 - 10,000 words) - encompasses a wide scope including work-based project reports, literature reviews, and research papers. Must carry academic rigour and subject to double-blind peer review.

Poster presentations

Poster presentation (10 minutes) - an informative poster with accompanying MP3 audio narration as an alternative format to the above. Not subject to peer review but screened by the editorial board.

Accounts of practice / reflections

Account of practice / reflection (1,000 - 2,500 words) - a short narrative reflecting on or showcasing a piece of innovative practice or interim (work in progress) findings. Not subject to peer review but screened by the editorial board.

Hackathon / special issue articles

Hackathon / special issue article (1,000 - 2,500 words) - a short response to a specific theme or topic curated by guest editors to encourage innovative thinking. Not subject to peer review but screened by the editorial board.

Editorials

Editorial - expresses the editor's views on a topic of interest or the content of the journal issue.
